How to Store Investment Gold: at Home, in a Bank or in a Vault
Physical precious metals need safe storage. You can choose from three proven options – each has its advantages and trade-offs.
Home safe
You have the metal at hand and under your control at all times. It does, however, require a quality certified safe, proper anchoring and home insurance that covers valuables.
Bank safe-deposit box
A high level of security for a fixed annual fee. Access is tied to the bank’s opening hours; consider insuring the contents of the box as well.
Professional vaulting
Specialised companies offer storage outside the banking system. This is suitable mainly for larger holdings; check the terms for insurance and withdrawal.
General principles
Keep your products in their sealed original packaging with the certificate – it makes a future sale or buyback easier. Don’t tell people around you about your gold unnecessarily. Choose new, uncirculated products from trusted manufacturers.
