Best-selling investment gold in September 2026: GOLDU ranking
What do customers actually buy when they decide on investment gold? Instead of guessing, we looked at our own orders from September 2026. Gold bars win, and above all one weight: the 10 g Argor-Heraeus bar. Here is the ranking of best-selling products, the split between bars and coins and between gold and silver, and what a “normal” purchase looks like at GOLDU.
The figures are based on all completed orders on goldu.cz from 1 to 30 September 2026, excluding cancellations. We give rankings and percentage shares, not absolute amounts.
Ranking: the ten best-selling products by revenue
| Rank | Product | Share of revenue |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 10 g Argor-Heraeus | 29.7 % |
| 2 | 20 g Argor-Heraeus | 17.3 % |
| 3 | 1 oz Argor-Heraeus | 14.9 % |
| 4 | 5 g Argor-Heraeus | 7.3 % |
| 5 | 10 g Argor-Heraeus Year of the Horse 2026 | 5.8 % |
| 6 | 1 oz PAMP Fortuna | 5.1 % |
| 7 | 2 g Argor-Heraeus | 3.8 % |
| 8 | 1 oz Australian Lunar III Year of the Goat 2027 | 2.6 % |
| 9 | 1 oz American Eagle 2026 (silver) | 2.2 % |
| 10 | 10 g Argor-Heraeus Kinebar | 1.6 % |
The top five places all go to a single refinery, Switzerland’s Argor-Heraeus. The three best-selling bars (10 g, 20 g and 1 oz) together account for more than 60 % of September revenue. The top ten also includes the new coin of the season, the Australian Lunar III Year of the Goat 2027, and, as the only silver product, the American Eagle.
By number of pieces, the order looks different
Counting pieces instead of revenue, the American Eagle 1 oz silver coin comes first. Silver is bought by the dozen, but one coin costs only a fraction of a gold bar. Right behind it come Argor-Heraeus gold bars of 10 g, 2 g, 5 g and 1 g. Small weights are bought as a first step, as a gift, or when buying gold regularly in smaller amounts.
Bars or coins? Gold or silver?
| Group | Share of revenue in September 2026 |
|---|---|
| Gold bars | 90.1 % |
| Gold coins | 5.6 % |
| Silver coins | 2.3 % |
| Silver bars | 2.1 % |
Gold makes up 96 % of revenue, silver 4 %. Why such a big gap? Investment gold is exempt from VAT in the EU. Silver is subject to VAT, so its price per piece is well above the value of the metal. Read more in Gold or silver: what to invest in.
Bars outsell coins by roughly 9 : 1. With a bar you pay almost only for the metal, while coins carry a higher premium because of minting. Coins are chosen mainly for their design, as a gift or because they are easy to sell abroad. If you are unsure, see our guide Gold bar or gold coin.
Why the 10 g bar leads
The 10 g bar is a compromise between an affordable amount and a low price per gram. The bigger the bar, the smaller the share of the price that goes on production, packaging and the certificate. With a 1 g bar you therefore pay noticeably more per gram than with a 10 g bar. Between 10 g and 1 oz (31.1 g), however, the difference in price per gram is small.
| Argor-Heraeus bar | Approximate price per gram (1 Oct 2026) | Compared with the 1 g bar |
|---|---|---|
| 1 g | CZK 3,200 | – |
| 5 g | CZK 3,020 | 6 % less |
| 10 g | CZK 2,985 | 7 % less |
| 1 oz (31.1 g) | CZK 2,985 | 7 % less |
So the 10 g bar has almost the same price per gram as the one-ounce bar, but costs only about a third as much. For the same amount you can buy several smaller pieces and later sell just part of them. Prices on goldu.cz change continuously with the world market, so the table only shows the ratio. Current prices are shown on each product page and in Premium on gold: why the price per gram differs. Choosing a weight as a beginner is covered in Which gold bar weight to choose.
What is a “normal” purchase?
| Order value | Share of orders |
|---|---|
| up to CZK 10,000 | 25 % |
| CZK 10,000–17,000 | 24 % |
| CZK 17,000–50,000 | 28 % |
| CZK 50,000–100,000 | 15 % |
| over CZK 100,000 | 8 % |
Half of all orders were up to about CZK 20,000. The typical customer is not buying kilo bars but one or two bars of a few grams. The average order came to around CZK 41,000, pulled up by a smaller number of large purchases over CZK 100,000. These make up only 8 % of orders but almost 40 % of revenue. Nearly two thirds of September’s customers had not bought from us in the previous year, so most of them were new customers.
How customers have their gold delivered and how they pay
| Delivery | Share of orders |
|---|---|
| Czech Post – parcel to a post office | 29 % |
| Zásilkovna (Packeta) | 27 % |
| Czech Post – parcel to the door | 25 % |
| Personal collection in Prague | 18 % |
Zásilkovna is used mainly for smaller purchases, personal collection for the largest ones. How we pack and insure gold shipments is described in How GOLDU packs and ships gold and silver. Shipping prices and limits are on the Order and delivery page.
Bank transfer is clearly the most common (86 % of orders), followed by cash on personal collection (13 %). You can make a transfer quickly with a QR code; the rules for cash payments are explained in Buying gold with cash: limits and AML.
What to take away from the ranking
Most people buy gold sensibly and without grand gestures. They choose trusted Swiss bars in a blister with a certificate, mid-sized weights with a low price per gram, and amounts they can afford. If you are just starting out, a 5 g or 10 g Argor-Heraeus bar is a proven first step. The next steps are covered in How to start investing in gold. We will publish the ranking every month.
Frequently asked questions
Which investment gold sold best in September 2026?
By revenue, the 10 g Argor-Heraeus bar (almost 30 % of revenue), followed by the 20 g and 1 oz bars from the same refinery. By number of pieces, the American Eagle 1 oz silver coin came first.
Do customers buy more bars or coins?
Clearly bars. Gold bars made up 90 % of revenue, gold coins just under 6 %. Bars carry a lower premium over the metal price; coins are bought mainly for their design or as a gift.
Why is more gold bought than silver?
Investment gold is exempt from VAT in the EU, silver is not. Gold also stores a lot of value in a small space. Silver therefore made up only about 4 % of revenue.
Is one large bar better than several small ones?
A large bar has a lower price per gram, while smaller bars let you sell just part of your holding. The 10 g bar has almost the same price per gram as the one-ounce bar, which makes it the most popular compromise.
